Cesar E. Chavez Commemorative Endowed Scholarship

The Cesar E. Chavez Commemorative Endowed Scholarship is to provide scholarship support to students who are farm, domestic or service workers or whose spouse or parents are one.

If you do not meet all of these requirements in a given term, you may lose your scholarship eligibility and your scholarship may be canceled.

Requirements:

  • All class levels are eligible.
  • Recipients must have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00, or the arithmetic equivalent.
  • Applicants must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application by the scholarship opportunity’s deadline for financial need to be determined.
  • Recipients must have financial need, as determined by the SDSU Financial Aid Office.
  • Recipients must be farm workers, domestic workers, or service (food, hospitality, construction, or homecare) workers or whose spouse or parents are one.
  • Recipients must have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00, or the arithmetic equivalent.
  • Recipients are not required to be enrolled full-time.
  • Recipients must be a returning student.
  • This scholarship requires a letter of recommendation/reference. Referees must submit letters of recommendation/references by the application deadline in order for your application to be complete and considered by the committee. Referees cannot log into Aztec Scholarships until you submit your application.

  1. Submit a letter of recommendation from a SDSU faculty or staff member. An email will be sent to the recommender to submit the letter electronically.
  2. Applicants must submit a 500 word essay responding to the following prompt. Please note that Cesar E. Chavez was a great communicator in English and Spanish. In honor of this, you may choose to write the required essay in either English or Spanish. Describe your life within a farm worker family, a domestic worker family, or a service worker (in the food, hospitality, construction, or homecare field) family. Include in your essay what motivated you to go to college, how your upbringing influenced your decision, and a description of your financial circumstances. Describe how you have or expect to demonstrate the principles of Cesar E. Chavez to help others in the tradition he established.
