Donor Profile:

This scholarship was generously established in honor of Beverly Butcher and Erin Ballard.

Beverly Butcher was born in Chicago but grew up in San Diego. She had a love of music and sang in productions at San Diego State University. She graduated from SDSU with a major in mathematics and a minor in music in 1972. She was a member of the Irvine Master Chorale (now called the Pacific Chorale) and several other local choral groups. Her math degree helped launch a successful career in Information Technology. She was also a mother to two beautiful children.

Erin Ballard also grew up in San Diego. From an early age, she wanted to become a teacher. She graduated from SDSU in 2008, received her teaching credential in 2009, and her master’s degree from Concordia University in 2012. Erin was a Mathlete teacher for 3 years, where her students qualified for the state (Arizona) competition. Erin loved teaching and was named “Rookie of the Year” in her school district in 2011.

Both of these vibrant, intelligent, and outgoing women were suddenly taken from this life in their 30s. This scholarship is dedicated to keeping their memories alive and encouraging others to pursue STEM-related studies at San Diego State University.
