Dennis and Elaine, firm believers in the power of public education, established this scholarship to foster a new generation of passionate, inspiring teachers.
Their commitment to public schools stems from years of volunteer work at their daughter’s elementary school. They actively contributed to her classroom and spearheaded efforts to boost PTA membership. Additionally, they led fundraising drives for computers, computer furniture, and teachers’ lounge furnishings.
Dennis attended primary school in Hong Kong before he attended public schools in Oakland, California. He is a proud alumnus of San Diego State University, earning a B.S. in Business Administration in 1975, and later, an M.B.A. in Finance with a concentration in investments from Golden Gate University. After a career in corporate auditing, he pursued his passion for equity investments by managing portfolios for his family.
Elaine also attended Oakland public schools, going on to earn a B.A. in Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.A. in Casework and Research from the University of Chicago. She pursued postgraduate training in Bowen Family Systems Theory and Psychotherapy. Her professional career was dedicated to clinical social work, medical communications, and project management in health policy research.
Through the scholarship, Dennis and Elaine hope to encourage multi-subject credential candidates who share their passion for unlocking the potential of young students through teaching. They believe that teachers are crucial role models who inspire countless lives within their classrooms.
