Sybil E. Jones Memorial Scholarship

The Sybil E. Jones Scholarship was established in 1948 to honor the woman who founded the SDSU Drama Program. Ms. Jones was born in Kentucky in 1882, earned B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of California, Berkeley in 1905 and 1906. She was one of the original founders of the Pasadena Playhouse. She came to SDSU in 1925, joining the English Department as the Director of Dramatics. For twenty years, 1926-1946, she single-handedly taught all the classes and directed all the productions at SDSU. She died in 1948.

If you do not meet all of these requirements in a given term, you may lose your scholarship eligibility and your scholarship may be canceled.

Requirements:

  • Recipients must be upper division undergraduate theatre arts students.
  • Recipients must have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00, or the arithmetic equivalent.
