William G. Tong Endowed Fellowship

The William G. Tong Endowed Fellowship will be utilized by the College of Sciences to provide fellowship support to doctoral students pursuing a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at San Diego State University.

If you do not meet all of these requirements in a given term, you may lose your scholarship eligibility and your scholarship may be canceled.

Requirements:

  • Recipients must be doctoral students pursuing a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
  • Recipients must have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.70 during the first academic year as a graduate student at San Diego State University.
  • New doctoral students must have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.70 out of 4.00 or the arithmetic equivalent.
  • Recipients must be full-time doctoral students.
  • Awards may be renewed for up to two additional years. Award renewal is not automatic. Prior recipients must reapply for consideration. Awards are limited to a total of 3 years per doctoral student.
  • This scholarship requires one letter of recommendation/reference. Referee must submit letter of recommendation/reference by the application deadline in order for your application to be complete and considered by the committee. Referee cannot log into Aztec Scholarships until you submit your application. Applications that have fewer than the required number of reference letters will not be reviewed.

  1. Submit a letter of recommendation from a current SDSU research mentor. An email will be sent to the recommender to submit the letter electronically.
  2. Upload an unofficial copy of your undergraduate academic transcript.
  3. Upload an academic style curriculum vitae.
  4. Submit an essay of approximately 500 words that describes what encouraged you to pursue your area of research. Include specific research accomplishments during the academic year, and your 10-year career plan.
